Ford favours recyclable ABS for Mondeo

Ford's environmental claims for its Mondeo car, required all of the components to be fully recyclable and capable of meeting worldwide safety and highway regulations. Monsanto's recyclable acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS), nylon/ABS alloys and polyvinyl butyral resin were chosen for the job.

Low gloss ABS materials were selected for a variety of internal components and trim, including Lustran 1500 for the central console, the glove box door and for door bezels. Lustran 1515H was selected for the rear window triangles. Low gloss Lustran, which is manufactured at Monsanto's Antwerp plant, does not need painting and hence reduces costs.
