ABS grades for automotive applications

High Performance Plastics, April, 1994

Three grades of acrylonitrile-butadiene- styrene (ABS) for automotive applications have been introduced by the Automotive Materials & Services Group of Dow Chemical. Two of the ABS resins, called Magnum, are said to have excellent performance properties and provide unique processability. They offer improved melt flow properties which allow shorter cycle times. Fewer gates are needed which results in fewer weld lines. High-flow Magnum 347EZ resin more than doubles the already excellent melt flow of Magnum 342EZ while retaining excellent thermal, flexural modulus, impact and tensile properties, says Dow. Magnum 358HP high-heat ABS is designed to offer improved processability over Magnum 357HP. It is easier to colour than other high-heat materials, and moulding costs can...
