Eastman adds to its PEN capacity

Eastman Chemical Co plans to increase its annual production capacity for the high performance polymer polyethylene naphthalate (PEN) to 10 000 tonnes during the second half of 1995. The plant can produce PEN homopolymers and copolymers in a range of molecular weights to satisfy the application and performance needs of its customers, says Eastman. Properties of PEN include high glass transition temperature; high dimensional, thermal and hydrolytic stability; and high tensile strength, stiffness, chemical resistance and ultraviolet barrier. The addition of a continuous process for PEN production at the Tennessee Eastman Division in Kingsport will position Eastman as a leading supplier, says vice-president and general manager of Eastman's Flexible Plastics business...
