Dow adds new technology in Europe

Dow is continuing its fast build-up of new technology polyolefin production, with a plan to convert an existing Dowlex linear low density polyethylene train at the Tarragona, Spain site to make Affinity polyolefin plastomers and Engage polyolefin elastomers, using its own 'constrained geometry' catalyst technology, Insite.

The converted train will have 55 000 tonnes/year capacity, for start-up in April 1996. Significantly, Dow is also talking about new polymers such as 'polyethylenes enhanced via Insite'. which it will introduce globally later this year. By the First Quarter 1996, the company will have 165 000 tonnes/year capacity for Insite technology polymers, from plants in Freeport, Texas and Tarragona.
