VW DASHBOARD OPTS FOR PPO (AND ABS).

High Performance Plastics, January, 1998 by MURPHY, JOHN

Two grades of GE Plastics' Noryl modified PPO are specified by VW for the dashboard of the latest Golf A4 (which made its first appearance at the Frankfurt Motor Show). A glass-reinforced grade is used for the foam carrier, while the structural element of the dashboard is moulded in "an innovative unfilled grade". Both parts can be recycled and offer good welding possibilities.

With the glass-filled grade, the carrier moulding has inherent adhesion to the foam, structural strength and dimensional stability, in thin sections which reduce overall weight and give a significant reduction in cycle time. The new unfilled grade offers low warpage and high impact strength, together with thin wall design possibilities and high dimensional stability.
