PA HANDBRAKE REDUCES WEIGHT, USES LESS PARTS.

Resulting from a joint development between the polymer manufacturer and the automobile component manufacturer, Fico Cables, the lever of the parking handbrake of the Ford Focus is injection moulded in Technyl nylon, from Rhodia Engineering Plastics. It gives a reduction in weight and requires less components and assembly time.
A 50% glass fibre reinforced grade of PA 66 is used, to meet the service conditions, particularly fatigue resistance. The design of the lever was optimized by structural calculus and simulations of static and dynamic distortion.
The rigidity of the material maintains the tension of the brake cable according to Ford safety requirements, both under static stress and fatigue, after a great many repeated cycles of the parking...
