MITSUI AND DOW TO MARKET THERMOPLASTICS JOINTLY IN JAPAN.

The US-based Dow Chemical Co and Mitsui Chemicals Inc of Japan have entered into a joint development programme under which Mitsui will develop markets in Japan for Dow's ethylene styrene interpolymers (ESIs).
The joint initiative centres on a new range of thermoplastics themselves based on the copolymerization of ethylene, styrene and, potentially, other monomers. Beneficial properties claimed for the ESIs include stress relaxation and high mineral filler loading capability, allowing a wide range of potential uses.
Dow recently began operating a 22 700 t (50 million pounds) ESI product development plant in Samia, Ontario, Canada.
