BASF buys Ticona's nylon 66 business.(Company News)

BASF AG, Germany, has purchased the nylon 66 business of Ticona, the technical polymers business of Celanese ACS Germany.

Financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed. In 2002, Ticona's nylon 66 business generated sales of around 45 million [euro].

BASF will not acquire any manufacturing sites, equipment or related assets as part of the transaction. For a period of time, Ticona will compound Celanese nylon 66 products for BASF from its Bishop, Texas, and Florence, Kentucky, USA sites pursuant to a transitional services agreement.

Through the acquisition, BASF says it will strengthen its position in nylon 66, particularly in the important North American market. Through the divestiture, Ticona will focus on its core businesses....
