Borouge to expand existing PE capacity.(Company News)

High Performance Plastics, February, 2004

Middle Eastern-based bulk plastics maker Borouge Pte Ltd is to invest $40 million to debottleneck the existing Borstar-process PE capacity at its plant in Ruwais, United Arab Emirates from 450 ktpa to 580 ktpa. The project, which includes expansion of material handling facilities, is to be completed by the second quarter of 2005.

Borouge is a joint venture between the Abu Dhabi National Oil Co (ADNOC) and Borealis. In 2003, its owners signed a memorandum of understanding and are now proceeding with a feasibility study for a new world-scale cracker and a downstream polyolefin plant. Conclusions are likely to be reached during 2004 with expected start-up of the new plants in 2008, Borouge reports.
