Nanogel/PU pipe-in-pipe system.(APPLICATIONS)

Cabot Aerogel, a business unit of Cabot Corp, and Corus Tubes, a division of Corus, both USA, have introduced an insulation pipe for use with high pressure high temperature (HPHT) applications. The system is insulated with a silica aerogel using nanotechnology (Cabot's Nanogel) and PU foam.
Aerogel is a hydrophobic silica produced as particles each of which consists largely of air (around 95%) contained in nano-sized pores, which severely inhibit heat transfer through the material.
The system was designed by Corus and combines the ultra-low conductivity and wide temperature stability range of Nanogel with the strong bonding benefits of PU foam. An inner layer of aerogel is placed in direct contact with the high temperature inner pipe, while an outer...
