European plastic surface treatment project.(ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES)
High Performance Plastics, August, 2007
Rapra Technology, UK, has secured some [euro]560 000 of European Union (EU) funding on behalf of a European consortium to lead the development of a novel hexavalent chrome free environmentally sustainable pre-treatment for plating on plastic.
The Ecosam Project is supported by the European Commission and is based on technology that allows the electrolytic deposition of metal layers directly on a range of plastic substrates. This means there is no need for the use of the carcinogen, hexavalent chrome, in the chemical etching.
More than [euro]1 million will be committed to the cooperative research project by companies from across the EU, and will be supported through the European Commissions Sixth Framework.
The goals of the project are:...
