Cable operators want to over voice telephony.(Lithuanian Cable Television Association)

Lithuanian cable television (CATV) operators are considering competing with the fixed-line telephone operator Lietuvos Telekomas for voice telephony services.

During the recent fifth conference of the Lithuanian Cable Television Association, the CATV service providers discussed joining forces to form a separate group of 15 operators with a view to competing with Lietuvos Telekomas once its fixed-line telephone monopoly expires.

The group is reported to have said it would offer favourable call rates based on IP. Evaldas Latvenas, director of the Alytus-based CATV operator, said the group has 1m potential customers.
