Philips Electronics has teamed up with Sony, forming the Fidelio Corporation in order to buy out digital rights managament group InterTrust Technologies.

The deal, worth E450m, was carried out to enable the two companies to exercise more control over the digital distribution market, which has seen rapid growth in the sales of film and music over the internet and in other digital formats.

The two electronics giants paid a premium of around 26 per cent for the company, and collaborated with a number of other investors during the purchase. ((Distributed via M2 Communications Ltd - http://www.m2.com))
