Carphone Warehouse acquires Hutchison German unit.(Brief Article)

Pan-European mobile phone retailer Carphone Warehouse intends to buy the German unit of Hutchison Telecommunications in order to buttress its own troubled German division, according to a report in the Financial Times newspaper.

The company is expected to pay around E56m for the unit, which maintains 13 mobile phone outlets across the country. Carphone Warehouse will then combine them with its own roughly 70 stores.

Carphone Warehouse hopes that the purchase will give a boost to its lossmaking German division, allowing the company to move into the more profitable service provision sector where it would manage customer accounts for operators - something current...
