URI Receives $350,000 From Auto Industry Companies for DFMA Research

The University of Rhode Island (URI) has received $350,000 in grants from three US automotive industry leaders to study Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA). Donors are Allied Signal, Inc., $100,000; Navistar, $150,000; and Ford Motor Co., $100,000.

The companies recently joined the Committee for the Advancement of Competitive Manufacturing, a 10-member URI consortium being formed. The university's Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering (IME) department is launching the consortium to support DFMA research and exchange information. The new consortium members join General Motors Corp., the first company to support an IME committee seat.
