Wind powers assembly line at Ford factory.(Assembly Lines)

LONDON -- This month, horsepower meets wind power at Ford's 73-year-old Dagenham engine plant. All diesel engines assembled at the plant will be produced using wind power, thanks to two huge turbines located next to the sprawling facility along the Thames River.

According to Ford of Britain Chairman Roger Putnam, the turbines will provide 100 percent of the electricity requirements of the newly opened clean room assembly hall where high-performance 2.7-liter V-6 diesel engines are built for Jaguar sedans.
The 1.8-megawatt turbines are operated by Ecotricity, a local alternative energy provider. Putnam says the project is London's first largescale wind farm.
