Supply House Times, October, 2004
A national survey conducted by Honeywell reported that 80% of Americans use air conditioners to keep cool in the summertime. An average family spends $1,300 on energy bills, according to the Department of Energy. Survey results also showed that 62% of Americans set their air conditioners lower than 75 degrees, lower than the 78 degrees Xcel Energy recommends.
The energy company said if the temperature inside the home is cooler than the outside temperature, the body will adjust and feel cooler indoors. For every degree a thermostat is raised, a homeowner can save 1% on energy costs during an eight-hour period.
