Web site to verify child credit rebates.(FILING TIPS)(Brief Article)

Kiplinger Tax Letter, The, December, 2003

Preparers will have an easy way to verify child credit rebates. This year, IRS sent out millions of advance payment checks to taxpayers as a one-time-only rebate of the $400-per-child increase in the credit. The payments must be subtracted when claiming the credit on 2003 returns. IRS sent reminder notices stating the payment amount several months ago, but the last time rebates were made, many taxpayers lost the notices.

IRS has set up a Web page that preparers and parents can use to check the amount of the rebate in case the reminder was misplaced. They can go to https://sa.www4.irs.gov/irfof/lang/en/iractcgetstatus.jsp.
