Cosmetics International Cosmetic Products Report, May, 2002

In response to both industry and consumer demand, The Soil Association has drawn up a new set of standards that can be applied to a whole range of toiletries from face creams and bath oils to lip balms and shampoos.

All the new products that fall within these guidelines, from the 1st of this month, will now be eligible to carry The Soil Association Label meaning that they have been independently audited for organic authenticity, are minimally processed and do not carry genetically modified ingredients.

Speaking of the new initiative, David Peace, md of The Soil Association said, "These new standards are needed so that consumers know which organic products they can trust and responsible companies can have their good practices recognised."
