Polarization-Maintaining Fiber: Lucent Technologies Norcross, GA; www.lucent.com.(Brief Article)(Product Announcement)

Fiberoptic Product News, May, 2001

Lucent's TruePhase[TM] family of polarization-maintaining optical fibers is designed for use in high-capacity communications systems' components and devices. The TruePhase fibers introduced are the TruePhase 14XX-Raman, TruPhase 1480 and TruePhase 1550. Lucent's polarization maintaining fibers provide an unprecedented level of control over polarized light transmission and are offered in application-specific wavelengths. Polarization-maintaining optical fibers differ from conventional single-mode fibers through the introduction of two distinct axes of transmission, each of which guides light at a different speed. When polarized light is launched into one of the axes, it is guided with minimal crosstalk to the other axis. The polarization state would not be preserved if a...
