Fiberoptic Product News, July, 2004

Santec Corporation

Japan

Santec announces an ultra-wideband light source, model UWS-1000. It is based on a fiber laser architecture and generates what is known as supercontinuum light with an ultra-broad optical spectrum from 1200 to 2000 nm. This light source will enable evaluation of optical components used in the optical access networks field. This includes components for CWDM and Passive Optical Network (PON) systems. The device has a spectral power density of more than -30 dBm/nm and has a flatter spectral emission than conventional EDFA based ASE light sources or LEDs. The light source has applications in optical coherence tomography (OCT), spectroscopy, and remote sensing.
