Biofuel production targets.(ENERGY)

Kiplinger Agriculture Letter, The, April, 2007

Look for biofuel production targets to continue to go up. Some members of Congress and proponents of renewable fuels are arguing for the current mandate of 7.5 billion gallons by 2012 to go sky-high: Up to 86 billion gallons by 2025. But such a lofty goal is unrealistic.

When Congress finally OKs a new energy bill in a year or two...

The target will most likely be set at about 30 billion gallons of biofuel production by 2020 or 2025. Most of that is sure to be ethanol and biodiesel fuel. About half of the total will be made from corn and the other half from oilseeds, sorghum, grasses and field waste.
