US crack-down on lead

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of Justice have launched a nation-wide crack-down on existing lead laws and regulations with the aim of reducing lead exposure to the public and the environment. The Department of Justice has filed 24 judicial enforcement actions in federal courts throughout the US, and the EPA has taken direct administrative enforcement action against 12 facilities, assessing over $10 million in administrat-ive penalties.
This marks the first time that federal government has used six environmental statutes, including the Superfund Law, to reduce a specific environmental pollutant.
