BP Chemicals' emissions drop

Haznews, January, 1993

The BP Chemicals Group reported a decrease of 13,000 tonnes in measured total emissions of 136 pollutants to air, water and land in its second annual emissions report, published at the end of 1992. The Group reported that emissions fell from an adjusted total of about 171,000 tonnes in 1990, to some 158,270 tonnes in 1991. The reduction of 13,000 tonnes comprised 4,000 tonnes difference due to "better collection and measurement" data, to give a "real reduction" of 9,000 tonnes, about 5%, on a true emissions level of about 167,000 tonnes in 1990. The 1991 data were released some 5 months after the Group issued its first data, for 1990, in May 1992 (see HAZNEWS, July 1992, p. 5; June 1992, p. 1).
