EPA action on Mexico-US hazwaste shipments:

Haznews, August, 1993

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has taken enforcement actions against three US companies exporting hazardous wastes from Maquiladora plants in Mexico to the US for treatment and disposal. Allied-Signal Aerospace, REM-TEX Manufacturing, and Jeep Collins Jewelry have been charged with the unlawful shipment of hazardous wastes, mainly spent solvents, across the Mexico-US border. The EPA alleges the transporter was not EPA-registered and the shipment manifests had incorrect or missing information concerning the generator, final destination and nature of the wastes. The Agency said that the new US/Mexico computerized, hazardous waste tracking system was used in some of the enforcement actions.
