Two key clean-up projects in Australia have recently been announced: the clean-up of the 20-acre (8.1 ha) former West Melbourne Gasworks site, in the State of Victoria, and the treatment of dioxin-contaminated soil at the main Olympic site at Homebush Bay, in Sydney, New South Wales (NSW). The Docklands Authority in Victoria has awarded the Aus$45 million ($30 million) West Melbourne Gasworks clean-up to Enterra, a 50/50 joint venture between the environmental engineering firm, IT Environmental (Australia) Pty. Ltd., and civil construction firm, Abigroup Ltd. IT Environmental is part of the US environmental firm, The IT Group Inc., which says the clean-up "will be the largest single site remediation project ever undertaken in Australia".
