CHANTILLY, Va. -- The New Horizons Foundation will fund three research projects, totaling $228,000, that will focus on ways sheet metal and HVAC contractors can improve their business operations.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison's Awad Hanna, Ph.D., will investigate how contractors can become more efficient during the construction pre-planning process.

Parviz Daneshgari, Ph.D., and the Motor Consultants of America will investigate the differences using union or nonunion labor makes on a project's potential profitability.

Penn State's Michael Horman, Ph.D., will research how managers can promote a "learning culture" within their companies.
