New Jersey General Assembly.(NEW JERSEY)(Brief article)

Snips, March, 2008

The New Jersey General Assembly recently passed legislation requiring the public utilities board and the community affairs commissioner to adopt regulations establishing minimum energy-efficiency standards for residential furnaces and boilers.

The bill has been referred to the Senate Economic Growth Committee for further action.

Under the Assembly-passed bill, new residential gas furnaces installed in the state would have to meet a minimum 90 percent annual fuel-utilization efficiency rating and 2 percent maximum electricity ratio. Compliance with the 90 percent AFUE standard would not be required in cases where the cost of installation of a compliant product could not be recouped within seven years.
