Few companies make it to their 100th birthday and retain the mantle of "innovator," but Despatch Industries (headquartered in Minncapolis, Minn.), founded in 1902, continues to occupy a place at the leading edge of the thermal-processing industry.
A case in point: Despatch recently delivered an 80-ft long linear age oven to help Bodycote better manage the aluminum aging process for stringers (wing box structural components) for the new Airbus A380 passenger jet. Despatch designed a unique end-to-center airflow that ensures even part temperature distribution during the ramp and soak cycle. Maintaining part temperature uniformity during the ramp was extremely challenging, but Despatch relishes such opportunities to advance the state of the art.
