Oxford Metric Group's main business, Vicon, is best known for its blockbuster film special effects. But 56 per cent of the imaging equipment unit's revenues still come from life sciences customers, such as Guy's Hospital, where deals are smaller but more dependable.

Underlying revenues (at constant exchange rates) grew 9 per cent and operating margins increased to 16 per cent, reflecting dollar-based costs and Vicon's 70 per cent market share.
