The failure of Christmas hamper rival Farepak in October 2006 came too late to stop Park Group reporting bumper 2006-07 results. The figures were also helped by a jump in hamper and associated product profits, from GBP5.44m to GBP10.22m - partly offset by a rise in losses from the soon-to-be closed cash-lending operation. The divisions losses rose from GBP3.47m to GBP4.78m after taking into account closure costs of GBP800,000.

Unfortunately, the demise of Farepak has knocked the traditional 2007 Christmas-hamper savings business badly. The result is that Park's Christmas orders this year are down by nearly a third even...
