Shares in the business class airline lose altitude as it announces plans to end charter operations. Stephen Gunnion

Shares in Silverjet plunged as much as 23.5 per cent after the long haul business class airline said it would cease charter operations at its Flyjet subsidiary when leases on its two Boeing 757 aircraft expire at the end of October. Due to the challenges facing the charter industry - including consolidation of large tour operators, excess capacity on low cost carriers and the decline of the traditional package holiday market - Silverjet says returns from this market are just too low.
