In a shortened work week due to Monday's bank holiday, car rental group Avis Europe sets off the action on Tuesday with results for the six months to end June. The market will be closely watching for a positive outcome to a restructuring strategy in the face of a tough market for car-hire operators. Rising fleet costs and softening hire rates, due to new internet entrants and cut-price brokers, are putting pressure on more traditional players such as Avis. Broker Dresdner Kleinwort expects full-year EPS of 2.5A (1.7p).
