Strong performance by Resolution.

Resolution reported another robust performance, although attention remains focused on the planned merger with Friends Provident Jonas Crosland

This was another strong performance from closed life fund specialist Resolution, which is currently looking to buy Friends Provident in an all-share deal that's technically billed as a merger. However, that deal could yet face problems - rumours persist that Pearl Assurance, which has a 16.5 per cent stake in Resolution, may make a bid for the company, although Resolution's chief executive Mike Biggs insists that it has "not been approached by anyone".

Meanwhile, operating profits on a European embedded value basis jumped from GBP118m to GBP395m in the period and Resolution achieved an annualised 11.8 per cent...
