An Ofcom ruling on spectrum usage bodes well for Pipex's early-stage wireless broadband venture Tim Bradshaw
Pipex's WiMax ambitions were given a boost by an Ofcom ruling that rival UK Broadband could use its identical spectrum licence for mobile applications. Pipex also hopes to roll-out mobile applications on its growing wireless broadband network, and it now seems likely the telecoms regulator will grant its request for a licence alteration.
"The read-across is good for us," says Pipex chief executive Mike Read, adding that Ofcom can be "sometimes unpredictable". Pipex's own application will be made next year, when the first mobile WiMax devices are released and more WiMax spectrum is auctioned.
