Packaging specialist DS Smith has managed to pass on higher input costs to its customers Jonas Crosland

DS Smith seems to be winning the battle against rising raw material costs by passing most of these on to its customers. This led to a dramatic improvement - from GBP13.5m to GBP39.9m - in adjusted operating profits at its UK paper and corrugated packaging division, responsible for 39 per cent of the group's turnover. It managed to pass on these costs despite a broadly flat market in corrugated packaging, whereas demand for retail-ready packaging continued to grow strongly.
