Worries about delays in a contract to build two new aircraft carriers for the Ministry of Defence (MoD) appear to have been overdone, with VT Group saying that negotiations with BAE Systems on a proposed shipbuilding and naval support joint venture remain at a very advanced state. There had been concerns that the GBP3.9bn contract could be delayed due to budget constraints at the MoD, but both groups have received a signed commitment on the proposed terms of the agreement from the government.
