Mining stocks attract interest but trading volume remains weak Jonas Crosland
Speculation that the mining sector will provide more opportunities for consolidation kept leading indices in the balck this morning. By lunchtime, the FTSE100 index was sporting a gain of 30.8 points to stand at 6,060.0, while the FTSE250 index was up 93 points at 10,279. Trading volume was extremely weak however at just GBP860m.
Bid speculation kept London shares afloat in the morning, on hopes of further consolidation in the mining sector as Anglo American came under the spotlight, FT.Com reports. Anglo jumped 3.1 per cent to GBP30 after announcing a strategic relationship with China Development Bank to develop projects in China and Africa.
