Upbeat earnings and gains on Wall Street lift sentiment. Jonas Crosland
London equities were made progress on Thursday, lifted by strength overnight on US and Asian indices and upbeat corporate earnings news, FT.com reports. The FTSE 100 started the session 0.8 per cent higher at 5,941.4, a rise of 47 points. The mid-cap FTSE 250 up 0.6 per cent at 10,165.9, an advance of 42 points.
Anglo-Dutch publisher Reed Elsevier led the advance with a 5.5 per cent rise to 615Alp after its annual sales growth beat forecasts and it unveiled further cost-saving plans. The company also unveiled the GBP2.1bn acquisition of ChoicePoint, a risk analysis specialist in the insurance sector.
