TIP UPDATE: Regulators approve diabetes test - and the shares could have further to run. Richard Hemming

The US Food & Drug Administration has approved another test for Axis-Shield's point-of-care diagnostic tool, Afinion, which monitors the diabetes condition.

The approval means that the device can compete more effectively in the US with the Bear DCA 2000, according to Piper Jaffray analyst Julie Simmonds.

At 259p, shareholders have had a rollercoaster ride since we suggested buying them at 234p (16 Mar 2007). But we continue to be encouraged by the group's inroads in the point-of-care diagnostics market. Piper Jaffray's net present value based price target is 346p. Buy.
