While Her Majesty the Queen entertained French President Nicolas Sarkozy and the English football team diplomatically lost to France, a further potential French incursion did the rounds over a possible bid for SIG from Saint-Gobain. SIG is not a bombed out victim of the latest credit crunch even though its share price has dipped 36 per cent to 862p in the last year. In fact, SIG is making hay as Europe's largest supplier of insulation materials. Business is booming because the green crusade means that something will have to be done to tackle the 7m UK homes which have no wall insulation and the 5m which have little or no roof insulation.
