The trouble with being a very successful company in a bear market is that you often become a takeover target - and so it is with Aegis, which last week reported another sector-beating set of preliminary results.
Suitors have been hovering for some time - in 2005, French advertising group Publicis made an indicative approach priced at 140p a share and, more recently, Vincent Bollore, the French corporate raider, has been trying to muscle his way on to Aegis's board via his 29.9 per cent shareholding. Mr Bollore's ambition, analysts believe, is to merge France's Havas advertising group (in which he has a 32 per cent stake) with Aegis Media after splitting...
