About All-in-One Funds.(retirement mutual funds)

Mutual fund companies are betting that a single fund can fit the needs of many retirees. In their quest to simplify investing for people who don't have the time or inclination to manage their own investments, fund families are now offering all-in-one retirement-income funds with a conservative mix of stocks, bonds and cash. Five companies presently offer this type of fund: American Century, Fidelity, Schwab, T. Rowe Price and Vanguard. In each case, the all-in-one fund contains several of the company's own mutual funds.
The three major factors a buyer should consider when selecting a retirement-income fund are stock and bond allocation, fees and the types and number of component funds used.
