The U.S. Department of Energy reports additional reserves have been discovered due to updated projections on Alaska's North Slope. "Reserve projections were made from an oil-centered nearterm perspective (2005 to 2015) and long term (2015 to 2050) marked by the emergence of gas as a major factor in E&P activities," the DOE reports in "Alaska North Slope Oil and Gas: A Promising Future or an Area in Decline?"
