Correction.(to article in issue of October 2000 about Right to Know Act)(Brief Article)(Correction Notice)

Industrial Safety & Hygiene News, March, 2001

In October, 2000, ISHN published an article entitled, "What OSHA says about safety signs." The article stated that EPA's Community Right to Know Act requires facilities with hazardous chemicals on site in quantities beyond certain thresholds to post an NFPA sign on their property. This is incorrect.

The author was referring to a state of Tennessee OSHA program mandate under its Right to Know law. Posting this sign, referred to as the NFPA 704 series, is not a national requirement. Author Roger Simpson reports that this requirement has been adopted by many local governments, and he recommends checking with your local fire inspector to see if it applies to you.
