Immediately after September 11, as emails zinged every which way across the country venting fears and frustrations, one of mine to a friend expressed the hope that the Twin Towers in New York would be rebuilt to even greater heights. It was a knee-jerk, "we'll-show-you" blast of defiance and pride.
