The fall has been a time for examining many areas of interest to those in the public sector world of pensions and benefits. Over the past two months, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charlie Rangel (D-New York) requested comments on the Pension Protection Act (PPA) of 2006 technical corrections measure, held hearings on fees disclosure initiatives, and introduced a broad tax reform measure soon to be approved by the full House. The Senate prepared to hold a hearing on the repeal of the Government Pension Offset (GPO) and the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and legislation encouraging divestment from companies doing businesses in Iran and Sudan continues to advance in both the House and the Senate.
