Monitoring System Using Stereoscopic Endoscope.(developed by Sanyo and Shinko)(Brief Article)

Sanyo Electrical Co. Ltd. and Shinko Optical Co. Ltd. have jointly developed a monitoring system using a stereoscopic endoscope that provides stereoscopic images without having to wear special-purpose spectacles.

Minimally invasive surgery is increasingly called for in medical therapy, but many operations are carried out while observing the progress of surgery on a single TV monitor using a single endoscope. This induces a lack of sense of depth affecting operations in complex anatomy.

There is a system in use that employs a pair of endoscopes to provide stereoscopic images, but this requires using special spectacles, which can promote eye fatigue especially in lengthy surgical procedures.
