In 1978, Jerry and Loren Alberico, along with Connie Pierce, identified a need for hub rings for floppy disks in the computer industry and started a die-cutting business with two machines in a garage. The founders expanded their morn-and-pop business, G&L Precision Die Cutting, to providing global solutions in precision die cutting, lamination and printing services to the medical device, aerospace, electronics and industrial industries. This year marks the company's 30th anniversary.

To celebrate the occasion, G&L, based in San Jose, CA, has made donations to The American Cancer Society and The American Diabetes Association.

"Connie Pierce [deceased] was instrumental in our growth, and we honor her memory with the donation to the Cancer Society," commented Loren Alberico, president." We also wanted to thank our many IVD [in-vitro diagnostics] customers for their business--thus, the donation to support the fine work of The American Diabetes Association."

Alberico also took time to credit the success of his company to hard-working employees and customer loyalty. "Today's challenges are different. Nowadays, customers are more demanding, requiring not only engineered solutions, but faster turnaround times and cost competitiveness. We work hard every day to meet these demands."

Moving forward, the company's focus now slants toward meeting the needs of medical device manufacturers with a particular focus on in-vitro diagnostics. The company's proprietary acrylic-adhesive, GL-187, has become an industry standard for diagnostic test strips and lateral flow devices.
