AMT establishes office in India
Medical Product Outsourcing, Sept, 2008
Applied Manufacturing Technologies (AMT) has opened an office in India.
The Orion, MI-based supplier of factory automation design, engineering and process consulting services established the office in Bangalore to support the growing Asia-Pacific market and key US customers.
"The Asia-Pacific region and India, in particular, are key areas for automation growth," said Joseph Campbell, AMT's chief operating officer. "With the increase in demand for quality products along with rising labor costs, the potential for automation engineering services is rapidly expanding. We are establishing engineering operations in Bangalore, India to help support customers in Asia with automation needs as well as existing customers in the automotive, aerospace, food and energy markets."
The new office features areas of automation engineering, training, field support and development functions.
AMT President and CEO Mike Jacobs called the company's new office a "natural progression" of expansion for the firm. With a population of 1.1 billion people, the country is just "too big" for medical device manufacturing and development firms to ignore, industry analysts have said.
Market research shows that India's medical device market is growing at a rate of 15% to 17% annually, mostly driven by an increasingly wealthy population, the construction of new healthcare facilities and an influx of diseases formerly confined to the West.
Founded in 1989, AMT's service offerings range from design and simulation to programming, installation and support of industrial automation solutions.
